Tile N Style U16 Football league Division 1A Final

Tinryland 1-19 Rathvilly 2-6

Tinryland were crowned U16 Football league division 1A champions when they comfortably overcame a determined Rathvilly side in the final at Kilbride on Friday 24th May. In ideal weather conditions in front of a sizeable crowd the winners were never headed after scoring 4 unanswered points in the opening seven minutes via Ciaran Larkin, Conall Dunne, Brendan Quirke-Bolt and Niall Lowry. Rathvilly opened their account in the 10th minute when corner forward Eoin O’Connor-Byrne slotted over a well taken point following good work from midfielder Darragh Murphy and full forward Martin Cole. Tinryland continued to attack and had increased their advantage to eight points by the 20th minute following further scores from Peter Hennessy, Ciaran Larkin (2), Conall Dunne and Conor McGrath. Four minutes before half time a superb move involving Brendan Quirke-Bolt and Killian Maher resulted in a spectacular goal for Tinryland from Conall Dunne but this was matched 3 minutes later by a Rathvilly major from wing forward Philip Deane after good approach work by Brian Smith, Jake Elliot and Daniel Veerachai.

When play resumed for the second half Tinryland set about increasing their lead and a succession of well taken points from Niall Lowry (2), James McGrath (3), Conall Dunne (2) and Conor McGrath left the scoreboard reading 1-17 to 1-1 midway way through the half. Rathvilly then began to up the ante with wing back Conor Doyle, midfielder Brian Smith and corner forward Jake Elliot all raising white flags before Elliot converted a penalty with 5 minutes remaining to reduce the gap further. The final stages saw a great Tinryland point from their captain Niall Lowry but to their credit Rathvilly battled to the end scoring further points via Conor Doyle and Eoin O’Connor-Byrne.

Tinryland who were very strong in defence had outstanding players in goalkeeper Ciaran Byrne, Fionnan Burke, John Murphy, Conor Ryan, Bradleigh Nolan, Dylan Reamsbottom, Cathal Gaffney, Niall Lowry, Conor McGrath, Ciaran Larkin, Conall Dunne and James McGrath. With the league rules allowing unlimited subs the Tinryland mentors sensibly emptied the bench giving game time to all the panel. The team can now look forward to a good run in the upcoming U16 championship when Tinryland will compete in group 1 against Eire Og, Rathvilly, Palatine, Mount Leinster Rangers, Michael Davitts, Muinebheag and Fenagh.
