Tinryland U16 footballers captured the division 2 league title with a commanding performance in the final against Burren Rangers at the Carlow training centre in Fenagh on Monday 28th April. The result of this game was never in doubt from an early stage after wing forward Michael Dobosz had scored our opening goal within 60 seconds of the throw in. Excellent defending from corner backs Lee Kane and Cuan Burke kept the Ballon parish team at bay before wing forward Fergal Kelly tagged on a point to our tally in the 5th minute. Burren Rangers then got on the score sheet via their wing forward  Michael Slattery before Gavin Power crashed home Tinryland’s 2nd goal following great play from one of Tinryland’s best players on the night Rory Doyle.

Mid fielder Keelan Gaffney and the Burren Rangers full forward Conor Moore then traded points before Burren Rangers added another point via Michael Slattery in the 13th minute to leave the score board reading 2-2 to 0-3 mid way through the first half. A great move in the 15th minute involving full back Conor Ryan and centre back Tommy Dunne resulted in Tinryland’s 3rd goal from the boot of Padraig Webb to stretch our lead out to 7 points. Wing back Jonathan Curran and excellent midfielder Keelan Gaffney then stretched the Tinryland advantage further before Burren Rangers replied with a point from Keelan O’Byrne. The final score of the first half came from Tinryland centre forward Conor Brennan who pointed in the 24th minute to leave the score board reading  Tinryland 3-5 Burren Rangers 0-4 at half time.

The second half was a much more low scoring affair highlighted in the early stages by a wonderful save from Tinryland goalkeeper Cormac Kelly who stopped a certain Burren Rangers goal.

After a scoreless opening 15 minutes Tinryland increased their advantage with a point from Jonathan Curran.  In the 18th minute Rory Doyle converted a 45 to leave the scoreboard reading 3-7 to 0-4 with 12 minutes remaining. The only other score came on the stroke of full time when Ronan Curran slotted over a point for the winners. Full Time score Tinryland 3-8 Burren Rangers 0-4.
