Tinryland minor footballers scored their 2nd straight win in this years M.F.C. when they easily overcame Michael Davitts in Ballinaboley on Monday 1st July. This was certainly a game of two halves as the home side were very competitive for the opening 30 minutes but when the Tinryland selectors shuffled the decks for the 2nd half it was all one way traffic in Tinryland’s favour. Michael Davitts opened the scoring with a point from corner forward Darragh McNally in the 2nd minute. Michael Calvey opened the Tinryland account 5 minutes later when he finished a Ciaran Townsend shot to the net. Davitts were back on level terms by the 10th minute following further points from Niall O’Reilly and Hugo Ashmore  and the home side were back in front by the 15th minute when O’Reilly slotted over another point. This proved to be Michael Davitts last score of the half however and points from Conall O Se, and Luke Nolan left the half time scoreboard reading Tinryland 1-3 Michael Davitts 0-4.

When play resumed Tinryland selectors had made a number of changes introducing Conor O’Toole, Fiach Byrne and Dermot McGuill into the fray. Another point from Davitts from Hugo Ashmore left the minimum between the sides but this was as good as it got for the Leighlin-Old Leighlin-Ballinabranna combination as a Ciaran Townsend goal and points from Conall O’Se (2) and Andrew Hanly stretched the Tinryland lead to 7 points with 18 minutes remaining. Tinryland were in overdrive now and another Townsend goal plus points from Owen O’Gorman, Kuba Debosch, Ciaran Townsend, Shane Webb and the recently introduced Diarmaid Walshe without reply left the scoreboard reading 3-11 to 0-5 with 10 minutes remaining. Tinryland continued to pile on the pressure over the closing stages scoring a goal from Diarmaid Walshe and further points from U16 player Niall Lowry (2), Kuba Debosch and Conall O’Se to run out easy winners on a final score of Tinryland 4-15 Michael Davitts 0-6.

The minors have a break from championship action until Monday 22nd July when Naomh Eoin will visit Rathcrogue. This will be followed on Monday 29th July with an away fixture to O’Hanrahans followed by a home game with Rathvilly on Monday 19th August and an away fixture with St Andrews on Monday 26th August.
