Tinryland minors maintained their 100% record in this year’s championship when easily accounting for area side Michael Davitts in Leighlinbridge on Monday 1st September. Despite the final scoreline the home side were competitive at times in this game especially either side of half time when they scored six points of their final tally of 10.

Ciaran Larkin and Dean Dunne scored early points for Tinryland before Michael Davitts opened their account in the 6th minute. Conall O’Se for Tinryland and Darren Lunney for the area side then traded points before Ciaran Larkin scored Tinryland’s 1st goal in the 13th minute following great play by Conor O’Toole and James McGrath. More good work by James McGrath and wing back John Fleming resulted in a Conor McGrath point before ‘Davitts registered their 3rd point in the 18th minute. Tinryland were winning the midfield battle at this stage with Niall Lowry and Conor McGrath winning all of the kickouts. The boys in blue and white began to stretch clear scoring 5 unanswered points via James McGrath, Dean Dunne, Conall O’Se, Conor McGrath and James McGrath. Michael Davits then finished the 1st half in style scoring 3  unanswered points in the 27th, 28th and 29th minutes to leave the half time score Tinryland 1-10 Michael Davitts 0-6.

When play resumed corner forward Dean Dunne advanced Tinryland’s cause within 45 seconds when he slotted over a point after good work from wing forward Ciaran Larkin and full forward Mark Lawlor. Michael Davitts then enjoyed their second purple patch tagging on 3 successive points between the 35th and 40th minutes which left the score board reading 1-11 to 0-9 with 20 minutes remaining. The home side continued to press Tinryland at this stage but our defence was excellent well marshalled by goalkeeper Ciaran Byrne and the full back line of Fionnan Burke, John Murphy and Dylan Reamsbottom who ghosted forward in the 42nd minute to score a beauty of a point.

Half backs Cathal Gaffney and Sean Kirwan were mopping up plenty of loose ball also and Tinryland got their second wind at this stage with a litany of points from Conall o’Se, James McGrath, and Ciaran Larkin which were the curtain raisers for a spectacular Dean Dunne goal following a pin point pass from recently introduced sub Killian Maher. Tinryland also introduced Bradleigh Nolan and Seamus Curran into the action at this stage.

With eight minutes remaining Michael Davitts scored their final point before the best worked goal of the match arrived for Tinryland when full back John Murphy passed to Niall Lowry who found Conor O’Toole who transferred to sub Conall Dunne and the ball was duly despatched to the Davitt’s net to extend Tinryland’s lead to 14 points. The game then petered out as Tinryland totally dominated proceedings and Conor O’Toole showed that he has fully recovered from his recent injury by scoring 2 well taken points and winning a free which was converted by Niall Lowry. Tinryland’s excellent midfielder Lowry then closed proceedings with a successful free before referee Enda Hulton sounded the final whistle. Final score Tinryland 3-19 Michael Davitts 0-10.
