Tinryland Junior B team lose narrowly to neighbours Palatine

By Eamonn Byrne

Despite losing out by 3 points in the end the Tinryland Junior B squad showed much improvement from recent seasons when they played Palatine in Bennekerry on Wednesday evening 28th March 2012. For long periods of the game Tinryland matched the home side and were 5 points up after 12 minutes following points from Jeff Abbott, Barry Kennedy and Paul McGrath and a well executed goal from full forward John Jackson. By the half way stage in the first half Pal were back on terms after a lapse in the defence allowed the home side in for a goal but to their credit the Tinryland lads continued to battle and further points from Barry kennedy and the hard working Michael delaney left Tinryland only one point behind at the break. When play resumed two early points from John Kelly and Barry Kennedy edged Tinryland ahead once again but a succession of Palatine points left the home side back in front entering the closing stages. Darragh Townsend and Barry Kennedy kept Tinryland in contention but it was palatine that finished the strongest to run out winners on a score of 1-12 to 1-9. Sub James Murphy was very unlucky near the end when his goalbound shot was inches wide.

Tinryland had excellent players in Colm Kennedy, David O Shea, John Kelly, James Dempsey, Michael Delaney, Paul McGrath and Barry Kennedy.
