Tinryland Junior A team put up gallant display despite losing to Kildavin

 By Eamonn Byrne

Tinryland Junior A team lost the points but showed a lot of positive traits when losing to Kildavin-Clonegal in the S.F.L Div. 3 at Spellman Park Kildavin on Wednesday evening 10th April 2012. As early as the 6th minute Tinryland were dealt a serious blow when full forward David Townsend was red carded by referee David Hickey. In a low scoring first half the home side scored 2 points in the 5th and 7th minutes with Padraig Whelan opening Tinryland’s account in the 19th minute with a successful free kick. This left the score 2 points to 1 in favour of Kildavin-Clonegal at half time.

14 man Tinryland began the second half on a high note and 2 Padraig Whelan points in the opening 2 minutes were followed by a Dean Farrell goal and another point from the same player to leave the men in blue and white 4 points ahead mid way through the half. Kildavin-Clonegal eventually got to grips with the game and a goal and 3 points in the closing stages saw them winners by 1-6 to 1-4.

Tinryland had outstanding performers in full back Mark Dempsey who showed a lot of his old ability, corner back Joey Ryan, Dean Farrell and Jack Lowry in the half back line. At midfield Padraig Whelan and Patrick Townsend put in trojan work while up front Michael Mullen and Paul McGrath worked hard. The team will be back in action on Tuesday next 17th April with a home game against O’Hanrahans at 6.45 p.m.
