U16 Football Division 1A Championship

                        Tinryland 6-12                           Palatine 1-4

Tinryland U16 footballers chalked up another victory in this years championship with a very impressive performance against neighbours Palatine in Rathcrogue on Friday 6th September.

Already assured of a place in the knockout stages Tinryland were expected to receive their sternest test to date from the Div 1B league champions who recently defeated Eire Og in this championship. Both teams were evenly matched in the opening quarter with

James McGrath for Tinryland and Cian Fitzpatrick for Palatine both finding the net.

Tinryland’s second goal by Dean Dunne in the 17th minute was the cue for the home side to kick on however and by half time the scoreboard read 2-8 to 1-2 in Tinryland’s favour.

With wind advantage in the 2nd half Palatine remained competitive in the early stages but their scoring opportunities were limited by an excellent Tinryland defence well marshalled by full back John Murphy and centre back Cathal Gaffney. Two further goals for Tinryland in the 40th and 42nd minutes by Conor McGrath and Ciaran Larkin put the result beyond doubt well before referee Kieran Kelly sounded the final whistle. In fairness to the young Palatine boys eleven of whom are underage again next year they never stopped trying and were rewarded with further points from Dylan O’Shea and Conor Crowley. Tinryland ended the game scoring two further goals from Niall Lowry and sub Adam Mullen.

Tinryland had excellent players in John Murphy, Fionnan Burke, Cathal Gaffney, Dylan Reamsbottom, Niall Lowry, James McGrath, Conor McGrath and Ciaran Larkin.

Palatine were well served by Colm Heneghan, Cian Fitzpatrick, Conor O’Doherty, Adam Duggan, Brian O’Mahony and Odhlan Duff.
