“What a difference a day makes” was one of the top tunes in the charts almost 60 years ago. That song title summed up the mood in the club on Wednesday evening 7th August following the victory of our Junior B team in the 1st round of the championship in Myshall against fancied Clonmore. Twenty four hours earlier our Junior A team bowed out tamely in their 1st round game with Rathvilly. Very few in the club gave our Junior B team any chance against the team from Hacketstown but such is the nature of sport that the underdog sometimes succeeds and Tinryland were well worth their 4 point winning margin. Backboned by 5 minor players Tinryland shaded the 1st half by 4 points to 3 after Patrick Quirke-Bolt had opened the scoring. Further first half points from Ciaran Townsend,  John Jackson and Michael Delaney kept the blue and white hoops in contention facing into the 2nd half. The entire defence including goalie Mick Moore was outstanding in that first 30 minutes with sublime displays from full back Paddy Browne, corner back Jason Noctor, wing back Fiach Byrne and centre back Kuba Dobosz. These lads were well supported by Niall Fitzpatrick at corner back and Barry Kennedy on the left wing together with Alan Kirwan and Conor Nolan at midfield.

When the 2nd half began Brian Hosey who had just entered the fray having replaced the hard working Cathal Whelan was quickly into action scoring a point and with Ciaran Townsend producing a man of the match performance clocking up a further 1-2 Tinryland were still in front entering the final quarter. A great point from midfielder Alan Kirwan  and points from Mick Delaney and Colm Kennedy were the catalyst for Tinryland to lift their game another notch and when sub Eoin Doyle who was returning after a long spell crashed the ball to the Clonmore net  with 5 minutes remaining Tinryland could look forward to this mornings 2nd round draw. Clonmore did narrow the gap in the latter stages as Tinryland understandably tired a little but with a few more weeks hard training under their belt this team can go all the way and bring back some silverware to Tinryland.

This is a young Tinryland team sprinkled with some experience and other subs who did well when introduced were Eoin Luc Kelly and Adam Nolan.

Team : Mick Moore, Niall Fitzpatrick, Paddy Browne, Jason Noctor, Fiach Byrne, Kuba Dobosz, Barry Kennedy, Alan Kirwan 0-1, Conor Nolan, Patrick Quirke-Bolt 0-1, John Jackson 0-1, Ciaran Townsend 1-3, Cathal Whelan, Mick Delaney 0-2, Colm Kennedy 0-1. Subs Brian Hosey 0-1, Eoin Luc Kelly, Adam Nolan, Eoin Doyle 1-0.

Final score Tinryland 2-10 Clonmore 1-9
