Tinryland minor footballers chalked up their 2nd successive win in this year’s league with a very easy victory over a young Clonmore outfit at Rathcrogue on Monday 2nd May. A lighting fast start by the boys in blue and white saw the ball in the Clonmore net straight from the throw in and this score by centre forward Keelan Gaffney set the tone for the rest of the game. Ronan Curran converted a free in the second minute and despite a point from Clonmore via Fran Whelan it was all Tinryland for the remainder of the half as they built up a lead of 4-10 to 0-2 with the Wicklow border team not adding to their account until the 29th minute. At this stage Tinryland were in cruise control having scored goals by Rory Dunbar in the 10th minute and 2 from lively wing forward Ronan Curran which included one from the penalty spot after a foul on himself. Clonmore were also awarded a penalty 3 minutes earlier but that one was missed to add to their first half woes. Half time score Tinryland 4-11 Clonmore 0-2.

When the 2nd half began Clonmore were first to score with wind advantage when Rory Maguire slotted over a point. Tinryland who were cruising now replied with 2 points from Keelan Gaffney and Jonathon Curran. Clonmore at last began to make some impact and 2 further points from Whelan and Dunne gave them encouragement before Co. minor Rory Doyle rattled the Clonmore net at the club house end with 15 minutes remaining. With Tinryland taking their foot off the pedal Clonmore led by their wing forward Tom Pollard did most of their scoring in the final quarter and their goal in the 53rd minute was one out of the top drawer. Tinryland added further to their tally with goals from Aubrey Bradley and a string of well taken points from Cormac Kelly, Jonathon Curran and Conor Ryan. 12 different players got on the scoresheet in this match for the home side and another feature was the long distance accuracy from dead balls by centre forward Keelan Gaffney. Final score Tinryland 7-16 Clonmore 1-9. The Minors are away to Kildavin-Clonegal in Spellman Park on Saturday next 7th May at 7pm.
