Tinryland Reach Senior County Final

Tinryland defied the populist commentary in the local papers by defeating Rathvilly (by eleven points to ten) in the county semi-final at Dr. Cullen Park yesterday. Martin Murphy asked one thing of his team, to stand up as men for 60 minutes and this is precisely what they did. Tinryland played with relentless passion, bravery and self-belief culminating in their first county final appearance since 1992.

The rock-solid Tinryland defence kept Rathvilly to a solitary point in the first half and entered the break leading by five points to one. Within less than three minutes of the second half Rathvilly scored three unanswered points. At this stage, Tinryland sides of recent years would have buckled under the pressure, but the self-belief and confidence instilled by Martin Murphy once again surfaced. In fact, despite immense pressure Rathvilly never once levelled the match and Tinryland won out with the narrowest of victories.

On the final whistle, the emotion of what Tinryland achieved was palpable. The Tinryland Manager, Martin Murphy could barely speak, but words were not necessary as congratulated each of his players. After the euphoria of the semi-final victory, Tinryland now realise that nothing has been won yet and they now want to go one step further than they did in the league final.
