The big news this week is Carlow’s sensational progress to the Leinster S.F.C. semi- final following their victory over Kildare in O’Connor Park Tullamore on Sunday. Tinryland supplied no less than five players to last Sunday’s team with Paul Broderick scorer of eleven points, Shane Redmond and Diarmaid Walshe making up the starting fifteen. Early in the second half Danny Moran and Cian Lawlor were introduced into the fray. A large contingent of supporters from the club travelled to the Offaly venue including a bus load of Tinryland followers. Plans are already in train for the Leinster semi-final in Croke Park on Sunday 10th June when our neighbours Laois will be the opponents.

Not to be outdone the Carlow ladies had a comprehensive win over Kilkenny in the TG4 Leinster J.F.C. at the Dunmore centre of Excellence on Sunday evening. Bennekerry-Tinryland were represented on the starting fifteen by Roisin Byrne and Nuala Mohan while Leah Mullins was introduced as a substitute early in the second half.

It was a quiet week on the playing front with only one adult team in action. The Junior (B) team wound up their division 4 campaign in a remarkable game with St. Andrew’s on Wednesday last. Despite scoring 5-10 which would win many a game Tinryland had to give way to the Bagenalstown outfit who scored 8-11 during the hour. This scoreline must constitute some kind of a scoring record for adult football in Carlow with referee Billy Fanning from Ballon recording a total of 34 scores in his notebook during a highly entertaining and sporting game played in great spirits on a beautiful pitch on a lovely evening.

Tinryland seniors will wind up their division 1 league campaign away to Old Leighlin on Sunday next at 7 p.m. To have any chance of making the league semi-final Tinryland must win this game against the former Co. champions.

Preparations are almost complete for the re-union function of the 1967,1968, and 1969 U21 and senior teams. This event will take place in the clubhouse on Friday 8th June at 7.30 p.m. Invitations have been issued to over 50 former players or their representatives in the case of those deceased and confirmation of attendance should be made to Liam Byrne 086 3526264 or e mail by Friday next 1st June.

A Table quiz in aid of the juvenile section will be held on Friday 15th June at 8 p.m. Entry fee is €10 for adults and €5 for juveniles.
