The ladies team were knocked out of the Leinster ladies J.F.C. at the quarter final stage on Sunday last when Meath champions Clann Na nGael proved too strong for the 3 in a row Carlow champions. Bennekerry-Tinryland started last Sundays game played in Bohermeen in positive fashion and were 4 points ahead within 8 minutes of the throw in. An early point from full forward Roisin Byrne and 3 Elaine Ware conversions kept the home crowd quiet in those early stages. In the 9th minute against the run of play Clann na nGael rattled the B/T net and the teams were all square mid- way through the opening half. Bennekerry Tinryland regained the lead briefly with a wonderful Leah Mullins goal 10 minutes before half time but the home team cheered on by a sizeable crowd upped the ante and led by 4 points at half time. In the 2nd half B/T scored the opening point which left only 3 points separating the teams but it was the fitter home team that dominated for the next 20 minutes building up a lead of 13 points. Bennekerry-Tinryland rallied in the closing stages with 2 great goals from substitutes Sinead Hayden and Niamh Kelly but it was too little too late and Clann na nGael progressed to meet the Longford champions in the semi-final. Impressive for Bennekerry-Tinryland were goalkeeper Shannen Cotter together with midfielder Cliodhna Ni She, Leah Mullins, Elaine Ware, and subs Niamh Kelly, Alex McNeill and Sinead Hayden.

The season at adult level is almost over and there is only one game at junior level left to be decided. The J.F.C. (A) relegation fixture with Rathvilly was due to be played on Friday last but was postponed due to Rathvilly’s involvement in the Co. senior final. A new date for the junior fixture has still to be confirmed.

The October executive committee meeting will take place on this Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. sharp.

Congratulations to club member Denis Flood who celebrated a special birthday with a party in the clubhouse on Saturday last.
