Tinryland players once again played prominent roles with Carlow senior men’s and ladies teams at the weekend. In the Allianz N.F.L. division 4 Carlow recorded their 4th consecutive win away to Waterford having already accounted for London, Limerick and Leitrim. Tinryland players Paul Broderick who scored 6 points, Danny Moran, and Shane Redmond were all part of the starting 15 while Diarmaid Walshe was introduced as a second half sub in the 3 point victory over the Deise. Danny Moran received the man of the match accolade from the K.C.L.R. pundits after the game. Carlow will be at home to Wicklow in round 5 on this coming Saturday in Netwatch Cullen Park at 7 p.m.
Carlow ladies made the long trip to Fermanagh on Sunday to take on last years All Ireland junior champions in round 4 of the Lidl N.F.L. division 4. After a poor first half Carlow found themselves 10 points in arrears at half time. A strong second half Carlow rally reduced the margin to 2 points before time ran out for the Barrowsiders. Bennekery- Tinryland players on Sunday included Nuala Mohan and Elaine Ware on the starting 15 while Roisin Byrne was introduced early in the 2nd half. Elaine Ware accounted for 1-3 of Carlow’s total with substitute Roisin Byrne scoring 2 second half points after being introduced. Ciara Nolan was also part of the Carlow panel who will take on Wicklow at home on Sunday next.
Sympathy is extended to Tinryland handball members P.J. Donovan and his son David on the passing of P.J’s mother Bridie on Wednesday last. Mrs Donovan was laid to rest following requiem Mass in St. Clares Church Graiguecullen on Saturday last.
Training for all adult teams continues on this Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.
Congratulations to Tinryland G.F.C. member Martin “Scrapper” Byrne who continues to enjoy success as a horse breeder following the very impressive victory of his home bred Global Citizen in the Dovecote Novices hurdle at Kempton Park on Saturday. The exciting 6 year old gelding by the Ballycurragh stud Rathoe based stallion Alkaadhem out of Martins mare lady Wilmurt in now trained in the U.K. by Ben Pauling.
