Tinryland GFC Notes 15 April 2019

Lotto:

Lotto results for Mon 8th  April. The numbers drawn were 13, 20, 22, 27. There was no jackpot winner. Winners of €25 lucky dips: Michael Kehoe (Snr), Andrew Nolan, Maggie Doyle & Paddy Delaney. Promoters’ prize: Eddie Townsend. Next week’s jackpot €6700.

Results:

On Friday night Tinryland Seniors played against County Champions Eire Óg. From the start Eire Óg took control, on top throughout the field and the scoreboard. At half time the   visitors led by 1-7 to Tinryland's 0-2. In the second half as both teams introduced players from the bench the game became more open. Tinryland kicked some wonderful points to bring them back into contention but a soft goal put Eire Óg back in authority. both Cian and Mark Lalor who were both brought on impressed. Final Score Eire Óg 2-12 Tinryland 0-11.

Tinryland maintain an unbeaten run in Division 3 with a great victory over Ballon on Saturday evening. Playing with the aid of a strong wind the blue and white men scored two early goals from Conor Ryan and Barry Power. With Mark Lawlor and Peenie Whelan playing well the Tinryland lads led at half time. Barry Power scored the 3rd goal on 25 minutes. Tinryland now had to face the wind with 14 men as Conor McGrath was dismissed for a second yellow offence. Leading from the back was goalie Chris Townsend who pulled off some fine save and kicked out intelligently against the wind. Others who played well were Jack Murphy, Brian McGrath and Shane O’Neill. Final score Tinryland 3-09 Ballon 0-09.

Tinryland’s third team recorded their first win of the league against Askea in Tinryland Sunday evening. Leading by 6 points at half time. Gavin Power scoring 2 goals to equal his brother 2 goals the previous evening in the Junior A game. Best for Tinryland were Lee Buggle, Harry Hennessy, Barry Power, Dinny Farrell and Cormac O’Brien.

Bennekerry-Tinryland senior ladies made an encouraging start to 2019 when accounting for current champions Old Leighlin on Saturday last in Molaise Park. The home team made the early running and had a 5 point lead by the 20th minute before BT opened their account with a Sinead Hayden point. Niamh Kelly then scored BT’s opening goal and further 3 pointers from Cliodhna Ni She and Roisin Byrne saw a complete transformation in the game with the away side holding an eight point advantage by the interval. It was all one way traffic in the 2nd half and further goals from Amy Dwyer and Niamh Kelly gave BT a great start to the league under new coach Rory Hurley. Outstanding for the winners were Co. players Leah Mullins, Cliodhna Ni She, Roisin Byrne, Niamh Kelly, Lauren Dwyer and Nuala Mohan together with Ciara Nolan, Sinead Hayden and Ruth Bermingham. Final score Bennekerry-Tinryland 5-13 Old Leighlin 1-4.

In Div 1 round 5 Tinryland play Rathvilly on Fri 19th April @ 7pm at home. Div 3 meet St. Patrick’s at Brother Leo Park on Sat 20th April @ 7pm. Div 4 play Rathvilly at Fr. Ryan Park on Sat 20th April @ 7pm.

Upcoming fundraiser:

Race night in clubhouse Fri 26th April @ 8.30pm. This is to raise much needed funds towards upgrading our dressings rooms. Horses can be purchased from any club member and from the clubhouse. All sponsorship welcome.
