The adult season ended on a positive note at the Palatine G.F.C. grounds in Bennekerry on Saturday evening last when the Tinryland Junior (A) team maintained their status in the top junior division after a relegation shoot out with Rathvilly. After a season in which the junior team lost out by the minimum in 2 of their 3 championship encounters the team showed great heart to triumph on Saturday against a decent 2nd team from the Co senior finallists. Tinryland opened the scoring after one minute when Cathal Whelan slotted over a point and the teams were all square mid- way through the opening half when David Townsend scored another point. Rathvilly then enjoyed a productive spell before Tinryland edged ahead in the 29th minute with a wonderful goal from Keelan Gaffney. At half time the men in blue and white led by 2 points after another Mark Dempsey point. Early in the second half Tinryland stretched into an 8 point lead after a brilliant goal from veteran full forward Niall Barrett and points from Keelan Gaffney, Mark Morrissey and Dean Farrell. Rathvilly fought back with a brilliantly executed goal to reduce the margin to 4 points before Tinryland put the icing on the cake with a great Michael Dobosz goal entering the final quarter. Outstanding for Tinryland were Conor Ryan, Shane O’Neill, Padraic Whelan, Mark Morrissey, Keelan Gaffney, Michael Dobosz, Dean Farrell, Cathal Whelan and Niall Barrett.
